LIRR - Central Rail 1915 station and Mitchel Field spur.

This is a photo of the Eastern most station of the Western portion of the LIRR's Central Rail line. It was used a paymasters station for the troops of Camp Mills at least until the camp was made permanent. It now serves as a Garden City firehouse.
Mitchel Field spur - site of the Steam Engine 35 rebuild operation.. Towards the end of 2000 it will be moved to Oyster Bay. Steam  Engine 35 reconstruction   - Aug  1997
A coal tender. The concrete ramp was part of a loading dock operation. This was the business area of the base. One of Mitchel Field's functions was to take apart fighters and crate them for shipment overseas where they would be re-united with their pilots.
