Historic Hempstead Plains - Nassau County, Long Island

Hangar 5(6/7?) - the first one East of the Old Operations Building.

This hangar was torn down to make way for the "new" Nassau Community College building. This was used as the gym for physical education, in the 1968 to 1970+ period. This view is looking southeast from the northwest side of the hangar, towards the center offices between hangars. One of my fondest memories is wating in the Gym on early winter mornings for class to start, I would lean against the large space heater to warm up.
Thsi is a composite view of the exterior of the hangars to the east of the Mitchel Field operations building (college union). The photo was provided by Steve Torborg of the Steam Engine Restoration group. These hangars are long gone.
